I took some other pictures at Jeremy & Sally's Wedding. You can see them here.

Hooded Merganser Pair

When I first saw this pair from farther away, a pair of Mallards (one male, one female) crawled out of the water onto the trail about a foot away from where I was standing. I was a little weirded out, since the came from out of the blue, and then they started following me. I stopped to see how close they would get, and the female actually tried to take a bite out of my right shoe. When they realized I really wasn't going to feed them, they left me alone..crazy Mallards!

Seen from Marsh Island on the Waterfront Trail from the Washington Park Arboretum, Seattle, WA.

Who am I?

I saw this big guy perched on some old pilings near Foster Island. He kept harassing the ducks & other waterfowl by soaring overhead and then swooping down to the water behind them, resulting in a lot of quacking and frantic flying. Then he would perch somewhere else, and repeat the process. I was lucky to get this close, and have him sit still.

It most resembles he pictures of the Golden Eagle in my "Birds of Washington" book, but it doesn't seem like the habitat is right. Maybe it's a juvenile Bald Eagle? Anybody know? I'll post some soaring pictures too, but they didn't turn out as well...

Asian Otter 2

Asian Otter 1

This little otter was so cute! He kept standing up near the viewing window (that had terrible glare) to look at what the people outside were doing.

Reindeer with a Heavy Head

Arctic Fox 4

This isn't the best out of my Arctic Fox shots, but it shows how thick its coat was - it looked a bit like a sheep ready to be sheared! ;-)

The Arctic Fox was shedding it's hair big time when I saw it a couple of weeks ago. It looked like it needed a good brushing!

Seagulls on Lake Washington 4

I took these pictures on the way from Emerson Elementary School to UW Campus on Tuesday afternoon. The sky was very dramatic - it hadn't rained that afternoon, but it started to rain about an hour or so after I took the pictures.

Another Shot of the Female Jaguar

She was looking into the water at her exhibit - maybe hoping for some fish?

Lucy 2

Lucy 1

Lucy is one of Mark's cats. She's insane, but we love her anyway ;-)

Gracie, Me, Will

Doug took this picture of me and Will & Gracie. We stopped by to let them out a couple of times this week, which they seemed to like ;-)

Gracie 2

Gracie 1

Gracie lives with Mark too. She's sweet, but slightly crazy ;-)

Will 2

Will 1

Will lives at Mark's house. He's a big sweetheart and likes to sit on my lap :-)

Lioness, Friday Afternoon

I stopped by the zoo on my way home from school Friday afternoon, and had a great view of the lioness. She was very beautiful in the afternoon light.

Flat-headed Cat

Found online randomly...don't make it angry!

Flat-Headed Cat

Arctic Fox

The Arctic Fox was posing for pictures today. She was posing on a rock in her exhibit, and several people were there with their tripods and cameras taking her picture. Since I don't like to lug my tripod around the zoo (and I'm stubborn that way!), I had to make do with handheld at high ISO...I'm trying out a Gimp plug-in for noise removal, and so far I like the results.

New Female Jaguar 1

New Female Jaguar 2

Woodland Park Zoo's new female Jaguar was in the exhibit today. She's about 1.5 years old, so she still has a somewhat kittenish excitement about the world. She was exploring the exhibit enthusiastically when I was there. I hear that she loves to swim, so hopefully I'll get a chance to see her swimming sometime!

Backyard Sunday

This is one of the first pictures using my OM Vivitar 28mm lens that I really like. The ME-1 eyecup really helps with the focusing on this one...I still have a harder time focusing with this lens than my other OM lenses though.

Sunset, no comet...

On Friday I went to Sunset Hill Park to try to see Comet McNaught. Unfortunately, the clouds were in the way...at least I never saw it before I gave up and went home to warm up my frozen feet. There were more people in the park than I had ever seen there before. The atmosphere was really friendly and fun. Aparently there were even more people there the night before when the view was good...unfortunately I didn't even hear about it until Friday morning. I'm pretty sorry I missed it...

Snowflake!

I couldn't belive that the snowflakes actually looked like snowflakes today...usually they are just huge blobs of snow.
